EmailRevised in 5.0+, Improved in 5.17+
A single-line text input field that includes additional validation to expect a valid email address as well as the possibility of attaching an email notification to it. Pair this with the Confirm special field type if you wish to have the user enter their email address twice. The field.type property value is email (for conditionals).
It is required to use the Email field type if you wish for your users to receive an email notification when submitting the form and/or you're using an Email Marketing API integration.
Settings
- Optionally choose an email notification template (see Email Notifications documentation) to be used to send to the submitter of the form (or the email address entered in this field).
- Users/groups need to have permissions for Notifications to create new formatting templates inside the form builder.
- Suggest Email Corrections
- Suggests corrections for common email domain typos when the visitor leaves the field. The address only changes if they accept the suggestion. Disabled by default.
Behavior & Limitations
Suggest Email CorrectionsNew in 5.17+
When enabled, Freeform suggests corrections for common email domain typos after the visitor leaves the field—for example, gmial.com → gmail.com. A Did you mean…? message appears with a Use suggestion button. The address changes only when the visitor accepts it.
Correction Logic
- Uses a predefined list of known typos for Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and iCloud, plus common
.commisspellings for these providers, AOL, and Proton. - Checks domains without regard to capitalization and preserves everything before
@, including capitalization and+tags. - Leaves unrecognized, custom, and regional domains unchanged.
- Dismisses suggestions when the address is edited. Skips read-only, disabled, and multiple-address inputs, and corrections exceeding the field's maximum length.
Suggestions do not verify mailbox existence or change normal email validation.
Styling & Customization
The message and Use suggestion label are translatable. Customize their colors with these CSS properties:
.freeform-form {
--ff-email-suggestion-color: #6b7280;
--ff-email-suggestion-action: #4f46e5;
}
The generated elements use .freeform-email-suggestion and .freeform-email-suggestion-action. The correction list is maintained in code and cannot currently be configured in the form builder.
Templating
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
field.browserAutofillNew in 5.17+ | The configured HTML autocomplete value. An empty string uses the browser default. |
field.suggestEmailCorrectionsNew in 5.17+ | Whether Suggest Email Corrections is enabled. |
field.emailSuggestionLabelsNew in 5.17+ | Translated interface labels: message, containing the {suggestion} placeholder, and action, the label for accepting a suggestion. |
Use field.render() or field.renderInput() to generate the attributes needed for browser autofill and email suggestions automatically. Suggested corrections only change the address when the visitor accepts them.
