Limited UsersProNew in 5.4+
With the Limited Users feature, you can easily customize the form builder experience for specific users or groups. You have the ability to choose which field types are available and which settings and page tabs are visible. This ensures that these users are not overwhelmed by advanced settings and prevents them from accidentally breaking your forms or site. You can also create as many Limited Users permission groups as you like.
Although Freeform offers permissions through regular Craft User Group Permissions to limit access to the Freeform control panel, the Limited Users feature allows for more precise control within the form builder itself.
Quick Setup Guide
- Open up the Limited Users settings page (Freeform → Settings → Limited Users).
- Click on the New Group button to create a new Limited User permission layer.
Carefully review and adjust the settings as necessary.
Users without the Limited Users restriction can still add any field type to the form, regardless of what is set for the Allowed Field Types setting. If the form already contains a restricted field type in the layout, Limited Users can still adjust those exist fields, but they cannot add new ones to the form.
Any settings that are critical to the form working must have a default value configured in the Form Builder settings area, e.g. Submission Title. Some other settings will continue to be automatically set or automatically populated, even when not visible, e.g. Field Handles.
Save the Limited Users permission changes by clicking the Save button.
Go to the Form Builder settings area (Freeform → Settings → Form Builder) and set default values for any critical settings you have hidden from Limited Users. This will ensure that the form will configure itself correctly when a Limited User with no access to those settings is building the form.
Apply Freeform's newly created Limited Users permission group(s) to any users or user groups that require it.
Form Builder Preview
Here are a handful of example previews of how much the form builder can transform when Limited Users permissions are applied. Keep in mind that the following examples are based on the permissions as configured in the settings example above. Your own permissions could be as minimal or extensive as you like.
